Structure and Form
The project explored the concept of structure in architecture, examining both its physical and abstract forms. Structural principles were integrated externally and internally to create a harmonious relationship between the urban environment and the building's spaces. The final project involved designing a recreational building in Oakland, located at the intersection of Grand and Broadway.

Form to Structure
Drawing inspiration from the function of the project, I chose chess not only as the design basis but also as the core activity and purpose of the building. The 8x8 grid of the chessboard influenced both the form and structure, while the spaces were designed to facilitate the game itself.

The Chessboard

The building transformed the environment into a dynamic 'chessboard,' where not only people but also the surrounding space actively participated in the experience.

The Players
The Players
Inspired by the 8x8 grid of a chessboard, the design integrated this grid into both the form and structure of the building, with a corner cut-out allowing light to become a part of the 'game' within the space. The ground floor opened up to the urban environment, inviting the public to engage as players, while the facade’s interactive elements created a visually captivating effect.
